Nellore Fish Curry. (Nellore chepala pulusu)






Probably some of you might be wondering about the name of the recipe....Nellore is a district town in Andrapradesh and yes....fish curry is one of the specality. The fish curry made here has a special ingredients and the flavour itself is mouth watering. Coconut poweder is not used unlike the normal fish cury. Ginger garlic is used just for flavour. Thats unique for nellore fish curry. Thinking of how to prepare it....Here it goes......

Intgredients: (for 1 Kg Fish)

  1. Onions medium size - 3.
  2. Tomatos medium size - 3.
  3. Green Chillies - 3.
  4. Tamrind - 200g.
  5. Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
  6. Red chilli powder - 4 tea spoons.
  7. Curry leaves - 1 stem (karivepaku).
  8. Coorander leaves - 1 small bunch.
  9. Ginger - garlic Paste - two tea spoons.
  10. mustard seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
  11. Oil - 100g
  12. Rock Salt - For cleaning Fish
Getting the things ready !

  1. Clean Fish with rock salt and two tea spoons of lemon juice. This will remove the flakes on the surface completely.
  2. Marinate the fish with salt , 4 tea spoons of chilly powder , 1/4 tea spoon of turmeric powder and two tea spoons of oil for 15 to 20 minutes and keepp aside.
  3. Grind Two onions, three tomatos and two green chilliies as paste and keep aside.
  4. Soak tamarind in warm water till it becomes soft. Extract the juice and keep aside.
How do I cook
  1. Take a wide pan so that fish is not broken while cooking.
  2. Heat oil and fry mustard seeds and then add thin sliced onion till light brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for few seconds. Then add curry leaves (1 stem) and fry for few seconds.
  4. Add the grinded paste and fry for few minutes. Fry until the raw spell of the paste goes away.
  5. Now add the marinated fish into it. Mix well , add tamrind juice ( add water also if the tamrind juice is thick). and close the lid and cook on medium flame for 20 minutes.
  6. Decrease the flame to sim and heat for 5 minutes.
  7. Add cooriander leaves.
And now the fish curry is ready to be served. Enjoy the unique taste of Nellore Fish Curry. This goes well with any type of Fish.
